Pommel Holsters by Frank Willis

A set of pommel holsters for Chris Atland at York County Firelocks. The flaps are covered with black bear fur and are secured with a brass button.

  1. I would love to know how early a time period such holsters were used. Any additional information you can provide?

  2. Great holsters. They show excellent workmanship. I too am interested in when they were used and the saddle type they are designed for.

  3. Frank will have to enlighten us about these holsters, but pommel holsters were used from the mid 1700's through the American Civil War.

  4. Thanks for the update. Mid-1700s helps for my research purposes. I'm writing stories set in the late 1700s, so it's great to be able to include a detail like this.
