Nose Cap Forming Tool by Jack Brooks

A one piece, swaged brass nose cap is difficult and time consuming to make, especially if this nose cap has a ramrod groove. I have made up a two piece steel tool that I am offering for sale. It is patterned after an antique gunsmith tool from Lancaster, PA. The nose cap that it forms is copied from a John Bonewitz rifle, circa 1780. Starting with a 2” X 2” piece of annealed brass, 0.050” thick, it forms the nose cap in just minutes. The nose cap can be spread open for to fit large muzzle barrels or squeezed smaller for more narrow barrels. The tool is investment cast in 4140 alloy steel. The shape of the tool is authentic to the period and is marked on the sides “J S BROOKS” and “2012”.
